With decades of experience, John Sims has dedicated his life to scuba diving education since the late 70s. As a passionate Course Director in Southern California, he trains both new instructors and those aspiring to teach. His blend of wisdom and enthusiasm makes learning to dive an exhilarating experience. At Ocean Gear Scuba Center, we focus on unforgettable underwater adventures for everyone.

Everyone knows Debbie is married to Big John, but did you know she has been in the dive industry since 1982? She’s our go-to expert for all things equipment, and manufacturers even call her for help! Debbie believes in making things right, not just making do. She lovingly cleans and restores regulators and BCDs, ensuring every piece of gear is in top shape. With nearly 35 years of shop experience, she knows how to keep your equipment functioning beautifully.
Debbie is also the heart and soul of our team. When we travel, she takes care of all the land-based details, making sure everyone is happy and well looked after. If something's not quite right, she’ll fight to make it right. It’s a family business, and Debbie is definitely our Mama Bear!

Meet Little John, the heart and soul of our dive shop! With nearly 25 years of experience and 17 years dedicated to teaching, he embodies the spirit of adventure and passion for the ocean. Standing tall at 6'3", he may be the youngest in the family, but his vibrant personality shines through, making every experience unforgettable. Whether you’re feeling a bit anxious or need that extra push to explore your limits, Little John is here to guide you, ensuring your safety and comfort in the underwater world. His infectious enthusiasm will have you smiling from ear to ear! As the Director of our Dive Club, he’s committed to providing you with exciting opportunities to dive into adventure. With Little John as your mentor and friend, you’re not just learning to dive; you’re joining a family that supports and inspires you every step of the way!
