Frank D. Murgolo, Ph.D.

When Frank isn't having fun working with new divers, he spends time in his secret identity as Dr. Frank Murgolo, Professor of Computer Science and Advanced Mathematics at California State University at Long Beach.

In addition to teach our basic SCUBA courses and being a regular on our local beach dives, Frank conducts most of our Rescue and Advanced Openwater Courses off the local beaches.  His Rescue Course is one of our most popular classes.

Diving Qualifications:

  • NAUI Scuba Diver Instructor
  • SDI Scuba Diver Instructor
  • NAUI First Aid, CPR, AED Instructor
  • American Association of Underwater Scientists (AAUS) diver
  • AAUS qualified for AGA and Kirby-Morgan full face masks with communications
  • TDI Certification in Gas Blending and Mixing EAN
  • IANTD Certification EAN Gas Blending
  • TDI Certification Visual Inspection Procedures
  • 6 years retail experience at Laguna Sea Sports dive shop (air fills, visuals, rentals, sales, tours, instruction; reference Gordon Boivin)
  • Current instructor at Ocean Gear (reference John Sims)
  • 180+ students certified
  • 2200+ dives

  • BS Mathematics, MS Applied Mathematics, MS Computer Science, PhD Information and Computer Science, University of California, Irvine
  • University professor since 1985, Software Engineer since 1974
  • Former Red Cross Life Saving certification (by Eric Hanauer)
