John W. Sims

Starting while still in  High School, John has been diving since the late 70's. Typical of many divers, he stopped diving the day he earned his certification only to pick it up again nearly 6 years later.  Having graduated from Chapman College (now University) with a background in both History and Political Science, John settled on the career choice he was obviously qualified for - teaching SCUBA Diving.

John has been an active SCUBA instructor for 25 years.  His High School SCUBA program has developed into one of the largest in the country.  With literally 1,000's of dives in his log book, John and his program are responsible for introducing over 200,000 people to diving over the last few decades.  In 1990, John earned his Course Director rating and has since created one of the countries most active Instructor Training programs.

With the help of his family and a dedicated staff, John has grown Ocean Gear SCUBA Center to being one of the top five NAUI facilities west of the Mississippi River.  As much as John loves to create dive leaders, his passion is still introducing people of all ages to their first underwater experience.
