Standard SCUBA Diver Program - $250

This class meets three times for training.  The sessions are generally conducted on the weekends when most people are available.  Prior to each session the student diver will have completed some academic learning at home with the help of our award winning education materials.  You’ll read a little, watch a DVD, fill in some questions right out of the book and finally review the material with the help of an audio CD that allows you to play it in your car or download it onto your computer or MP3 player; or, if you prefer, you can make use of the online eLearning module that is provided for you.  That's right, you can do everything online, whenever it is convenient.

Each session will have a short overview at Ocean Gear to make sure you are comfortable with all the material.  We will also use this time to help with material that a textbook cannot do justice with.   This is where you ask questions and get clarification.  Our next phase in the session is our pool time.  Here is where you learn how to dive.  Three pool sessions is standard.   We promise that we will spend whatever time is necessary for you to be comfortable with diving.  If that means an additional session with the instructor, or some more pool dive then you shall have it.

At the conclusion of the pool training, you are then ready to start diving in the ocean.  There are five dives required by NAUI.  That’s 20% more that is required by other agencies.  Of these five dives, there are four SCUBA dives  and one Skin Dive (no tank and regulator).  These dives can be completed on our weekend beach dives or on one of our boat trips.  Our beach dives focus on training our divers on how to properly handle themselves with California surf.

There is also a written review that must be completed.  We set high standards for our training; however, we absolutely promise that if you are willing to put in the time, you will succeed and become a truly comfortable SCUBA Diver.  Once all the coursework, pool work, ocean dives and written review are completed, you are a certified SCUBA Diver.  This certification never expires and it never needs to be renewed.
