Scuba Diver
Course Description
The Openwater SCUBA Diver Course is an entry level program designed
to train the beginning diver in the fundamentals of safe SCUBA Diving.
A comprehensive course utilizing both Academic and Practical training
to make the client confident and competent to dive in the openwater
(usually the Ocean), the course concludes with a usual five (5) dives
in the ocean, which can be completed either as Beach Dives or on our
Boat Trips. This class is your first stop in discovering all the ocean's
wonders
Course
Format
Our
Course is designed to give our client maximum flexibility. It starts
as soon as you come into Ocean Gear Dive Center to collect your Student Materials.
These items include: Ocean Gear Student Handbook, NAUI SCUBA Diver textbook, NAUI SCUBA Diver Workbook, 2 DVD's & 2 Audio CD's, NAUI Log Book,
NAUI Dive Tables, Student Record folder, and many other tools to help make the learning easier and more enjoyable.
You will start by learning in the comfort of your own home. Then, prior to each of 3 pool sessions,
you will meet with your instructor to make sure you are comfortable with all the material.
Our job is to make sure you "get it".

format (Standard, Semi-Private, or Exclusive). Call for Ocean Gear for rates for each format..
We have an extensive library of additional resources to assist you in any special aspect of training
plus a staff of some of the most knowledgeable and experienced divers around.
While most students will
look to own their own set of SCUBA gear eventually, equipment rental for the ocean dives is extra.
Some
Equipment Purchase is required for your two days of ocean diving. This is for your general comfort.
You will be expected, after proper instruction and fitting to purchase your own: Mask, Snorkel, Fins, Boots and Gloves.
10% of your course tuition will be applied to your purchase of this equipment when you shop at Ocean Gear.
Our expert instructors will see that you are properly fitted with equipment that meets your needs,
not some store buyer from a centralized location interested in profit rather than your comfort and well being.
Advanced Openwater
Course Description
This class is designed to introduce the new diver to different diving environments.
There are six (6) dives required, including: deep, night, navigation and three (3) others. At ocean Gear, we like to help you develop skills that most divers want to improve on. You will learn how to get your air consumption down
reaaal looowww. You will also learn how to find your way back to the boat every time, even without a compass.
Buoyancy Control will be refined so that you can actually take lead off your weight belt, hang upside down and maybe even take a nap...if you want to.
The class takes two days requiring no real class work, pool work or testing. There is a brief orientation that takes place in advance.
The Advanced Course is a great way to refresh your diving skills. If it has been a while since you have been in the ocean,
then a pool session can be arranged, at no charge. The class is conducted on any of our Live-aboard Dive Trips . There is some
equipment that you must provide. Contact us for a list.
Tuition: - Call Ocean Gear for Course tuition fees. A $50.00 Credit is issued if the course is taken on our multi-day Live
Aboard Dive trips.
Rescue Diver
Course Description
First Aid & C.P.R. certifications are required for this level of training.
If you are not currently certified, a course can be arranged for an
additional fee.

Master Diver
Course
Description
This class is designed take your knowledge of diving to a "near instructor level". This is an intense course designed to teach you how to plan and execute all types of dives. There are 24 -30 hours of training including 8 ocean dives. Your training will cover: Diving Physics, Diving Physiology, Equipment, Environment, Decompression/Recompression Theory, Deep Diving, Night Diving, Navigation (both Compass and Natural), Search & Light Salvage and many others. This course is starts with some home study and also meets for 3 - 4 sessions to help make the learning fun and easy.

Divemaster
Course Description
Whether it is Divemastering or any other Leadership Course, this is a must for
all those contemplating a career in diving. The Divemaster Course meets on weekends and some evenings lasting
approximately 4 weekends.

- Call Ocean Gear for Tuition Rates. Course includes student materials and our 2 Day Live Aboard Boat Trip. Some additional study resources and equipment may be required.
Instructor Training Course
Course Description
This
The Instructor Training Course (ITC) is designed to train and qualify divers as NAUI Instructors. Divers
must be certified as NAUI Assistant Instructor or NAUI Divemaster. During the course future instructors learn effective methods to teach skin and SCUBA diving in compliance with NAUI Diving Course Standards. Our ITC also includes certification as a
Nitrox Instructor and First Aid/CPR Instructor ratings. At least one 2 day Live Aboard to Catalina Island is also included.
Tuition: - Call Ocean Gear for Tuition. Course does include the Instructor Qualification Program (a $350 value). The Complete NAUI Instructor Library is required and available at a special Student Price.
Complete Instructor Training Course
Course Description
This class assumes you are certified as an Openwater SCUBA Diver and takes you from Advanced Openwater through Instructor.
It includes the following subjects:

Leadership Training (Dive Master, Assistant Instructor, Skin Dive Instructor)

Course Format
Course runs a minimum of 14 weeks and usually requires an internship
. Classes will meet at least 2 nights
a week and 2 weekends a month. Meeting times will be scheduled at least
one month in advance
